About The Owner
As the owner of Landcraft, I thank you for giving me the opportunity to work on your project. Thirtyseven years ago I started in this business, and formed Landcraft in 1991. In the early 80s I supervised and ran crews for some of the most well‐known Landscape Architects in Austin. Over the decades I've seen most landscape companies come and go, while we have stood the test of time. Why? We will never compromise on quality.
I started designing projects 32 years ago and have extensive experience in all aspects of this business. In the early eighties I started growing native plants when, believe it or not, you couldn't find many native plants in any nurseries.
Over the decades I've discovered the key elements necessary to have a successful outcome.
Firstly, proper time spent on a design is elemental. I do not hire designers, or sales people, who come and go and have a limited range of experience or have the construction experience necessary for successful designs. I design all projects myself, and stay closely involved with my clients to give each job the necessary attention which they deserve, supervising every job. We still do one job at a time in order to maintain control and give your project that personal attention. I focus on low maintenance design, which to me, is putting the right plant in the right place in order to minimize pruning.
The main failure of most landscapes is yard maintenance people, who really just focus on mowing, edging and blowing and when necessary, pruning. Unfortunately, growing plants are often ruined in order to give the client their “pruning package.” I limit this damage by offering pruning and fertilizing services for my jobs, in order to maintain the look which was intended on the drafting table.
It is common for us to come in on a project, after a builders landscaping is done, and redesign…using plants that were put in the wrong places or will most likely be ruined by maintenance people. Likewise it is common for us to come in and pull out other landscapers’ work because it was substandard or just poorly thought out. Too often, new construction landscaping is an afterthought, and done quickly and cheaply because that’s what the builder wants. Since it’s the first impression of your new home, that’s certainly not what the omeowner values!
I do not sub out any work, but I have my own skilled craftsmen, who’ve been trained and supervised by me over 20 years. Our specialty in landscaping design and installation is to pull together high quality, beautiful stone work, proper planting design, including deer resistant and drought resistant plants, as well as the irrigation modifications needed, drainage solutions, exterior lighting, pond creation and more.
We are a 5‐star company and that doesn't come by accident. My goal is to provide my clients with the very best, and for them to be assured that their hard‐earned money will not be wasted; they will have a beautiful, low‐maintenance yard they will be proud of for years to come.

Richard is a true professional. We are beyond thrilled with how our front and back yards have turned out. He put a lot of thought into the design, tweaking as he worked to get the aesthetic perfect. He worked with our budget, giving us different design options to accommodate. Richard was very thoughtful in his plant selection for our landscaping ‐ The true test came when we had the rain from hurricane Harvey and the multiple inches a few weeks before that as well. Our yard drained perfectly ‐ no flooding and no damage. If you are looking for a refresh or total overhaul of your landscaping, we highly recommend Richard ‐ you won't be disappointed.
He heard our ideas and really helped us to flesh them out into a plan. The work has been top notch. From plant selection to stones and accents, everything has been well thought out ‐ Richard knows his stuff. We could not be happier with our choice and our yard.
I just used Richard and his team to redo my entire backyard and they did a fantastic job! I asked
several landscaping companies for bids, and Richard was the only one to get me a ell‐designed and comprehensive plan in a timely manner. His team put in a new patio, walkway, grass, decomposed granite, mulch and plants. His bid was very competitive, and he finished the job on time and budget. I will definitely use Richard again and I highly recommend him.
Just one word to describe Richard and his team at Landcraft....awesome! From the first meeting to discuss options through installation and clean‐up, their attention to detail was relentless. Richard has a great eye for making changes, within budget, as work was being done. We are thrilled with the outcome, would use Landcraft again and recommend them highly.
Simply the best! Richard is very knowledgeable and professional. Our home looks beautiful and the best part is I know the landscaping will be drought tolerant and relatively maintenance free. Richard uses the best products‐‐large stones and large healthy plants. He also communicates very clearly about budget and costs throughout the project. I highly recommend Landcraft, the team will transform your yard into an oasis.
Richard was helpful, no‐nonsense, and reasonable throughout the entire project, and I'd call him without question in the future if I needed more landscaping done! Richard quoted a reasonable price with a smart, low‐maintenance plan to take care of the problem. They did it thoroughly and professionally. Hire Landcraft without fear!
He has very good design skills as well as knowledge of plants that will thrive in specific areas. He
spends lots of time finding the right plants to work in your yard. This combination of skills and
attention to detail makes him a good choice for any problem areas you may have. His workers are craftsmen and care a lot about their work. I am very pleased with the results. I am very excited to have a new, beautiful, lush landscape to enjoy in my backyard! I recommend you take the time to talk to Richard from Landcraft. I am very glad that I did.
Richard is just brilliant. He came up with a plan that included considerations for slope and drainage, sunny and shady areas, gutter downspouts... every detail of our yard. More impressively, he considered our daughter's safety, and made recommendations for kid‐friendly edging and nonpoisonous plants. He…created a play area, and a lovely plan with two seating areas, a walking path, and a gorgeous array of plants. Landcraft is amazingly reliable. Their work was outstanding. Every detail was exactly as it was drawn on the plan…they created a stone patio… They really did everything as best as it could be done. The quality of the plants and materials he uses is top notch! He also suggested a specific kind of decomposed granite and sand for the sandbox. This guy is seriously detail oriented. We really couldn't be happier with Landcraft, and plan on using them to landscape our front yard next year. The price was very reasonable, and the value outstanding.
Richard did a great job on my landscaping. Richard devised a plan with extensive french drains, pipes and grading to solve the drainage issues. He incorporated native rocks and plants to conceal the drains and it all looks very beautiful. Richard also constructed beds with limestone blocks and filled the beds with deer and shade tolerant plants… Lastly, he added a sprinkler system, shade tolerant grass and six new trees to complete the project. It all looks beautiful and having seen the drains perform in recent storms I'm happy to see the drainage problems are solved! I would not hesitate to recommend Richard for drainage and landscaping projects.
Richard thoroughly and thoughtfully came up with a design and drainage plan for our home and very metic corners. His work turned out beautiful and we couldn't be any happier with the outcome. His pricing also beat all the other bids we received. We have had several people comment on his work and ask for his business card, of which we are happy to recommend him. We can't wait to complete more projects with them in the future!
Richard REALLY knows his stuff, and his crew does such excellent work. If you need beds, retaining walls, steps, and love the idea of low maintenance, beautiful xeriscaping, talk to Landcraft!
Very impressed with the results. Richard has a very good vision and this is one of his big strengths. He has many years of experience in this business and it’s apparent through his work. We interviewed many landscapers and almost gave up. Richard was straight to the point and I appreciated his honesty. I developed trust in him and his work because he delivered what he promised. I must say I didn’t expect the work to look that great. I wish I took before and after picture. He knows his Central Texas plants, what works and what doesn’t in this climate! I like that he doesn’t waste money, he works within the budget. During the whole process he tried to find a way to save money but not compromise on quality or results. Would absolutely recommend Richard and use him again in a heartbeat. Just blessed that our paths crossed and he turned our front, side and back yard into a place I just never want to leave! Thank you Richard!
I used Richard with Landcraft to do the landscaping job for my entire yard. Richard is so
knowledgeable ‐ he treats landscaping like painting a canvas. He also looks out for my best interests and always shares a lot of good advice & guidance/ tips ‐ not one to just do a job and leave you on your own after. He did an absolutely wonderful job overall and my newly landscaped yard gets a lot of compliments from my neighbors and guests.

We have used Richard's services twice so far, and we have more work scheduled to start soon. We have been and continue to be impressed with his design skills and knowledge. He turned an ugly, muddy, unusable space into our favorite part of our house. He asked many questions and figured out a design with plant choices that we now love. Richard listened to our ideas and what is important to us. He also listened to our budget and timeframe requirements. We have ended up loving the results and wanting to add even more. Richard just finished the third job with us…the professionalism of Richard and his crew and our satisfaction with the results are just as strong. As with the other jobs, Richard executed a great job. Once again, we are fully satisfied and recommend Landcraft highly.
Richard and his crew did a fantastic job landscaping a challenging terrain in our yard. He listened to our goals and developed a very pragmatic and sensible plan to achieve them. His plant selections were not only practical (deer‐ & drought‐tolerant, appropriate for the amount of sun/shade) but also very appealing in color and arrangement. In all aspects of our project, there was an emphasis on quality workmanship and materials selection to produce a low‐maintenance and long‐lasting end result. We quickly learned to trust Richard's intuition and recommendations, and we were extremely pleased with the end result.
Richard is very knowledgeable, professional, honest, and dedicated! He gave us a truly beautiful space to play and relax!
Based on a recommendation from our neighbors, we contacted Richard Paulin. During our initial conversation, we found that Richard brings a wealth of knowledge of native plants having been in the business for 25 years. Richard came up with a design that not only addressed these challenges, but also addressed his vision for our property. The result was spectacular. We now have a landscape that fits the design of our home, is drought tolerant with an abundance of color. We were so impressed that we asked Richard to come back and construct a stone inlaid patio in our backyard. As with the landscaping, the result was again spectacular. If you are considering landscaping, you should look no further than Landcraft. Great job Richard!
Richard…made my yard look beautiful… He was very thorough in the planning and timing execution of a project that involved re‐directing rainwater drainage around my house and around/under a new patio. I was so impressed with the work… He's very knowledgeable and takes great pride in his work and was also about half the cost of other quotes I received.
